Our Story
Welcome to the storied journey of Sherwood Heights School, an institution built on a foundation of dedication, innovation, and community spirit. Established in 1989, our school embarked on its educational mission with a modest ensemble of 18 students and three committed staff members. Nestled in the heart of Erin Mills, our initial location was the seed from which our vibrant community has grown.
Our humble beginnings were marked by a shared dedication to providing an intimate, engaging learning environment. Even in those early days, Sherwood Heights was more than a school; it was a family, where every student’s potential could be nurtured and realized. This foundational period set the tone for the enriched educational approach that defines us today.
The turn of the millennium heralded a new chapter for Sherwood Heights as we sought to expand our reach and deepen our impact. In 2002, with aspirations of accommodating our growing family and enhancing our educational offerings, we proudly inaugurated our second campus, the Kennedy Campus. Also located in Mississauga, this purpose-built facility signified our commitment to evolving without losing sight of our core values. It provided state-of-the-art amenities and a broader canvas for innovative teaching and learning experiences.
A significant milestone in our history came in September 2018 when the Erin Mills Campus took a bold step forward, relocating to a new, modern facility at 3650 Platinum Drive. This move was not just a change of scenery; it represented our dedication to constant improvement and adaptation. The new campus stands as a testament to our enduring commitment to providing the best possible environment for our students to learn, grow, and succeed.
Today, Sherwood Heights School has blossomed into a thriving educational community, home to over 500 students and supported by a dedicated team of teachers. Our growth from a small, passionate cohort to a leading educational institution in Mississauga mirrors our journey of continuous learning and development. Each chapter in our history is a stepping stone, not only in terms of physical expansion but also in the evolution of our educational philosophy and practices.
As we look to the future, we remain anchored by the values that have guided us from the beginning—commitment to confidence, knowledge, and excellence. Sherwood Heights School continues to be a place where history and innovation intertwine, shaping the bright, promising leaders of tomorrow.
Facilities
At Sherwood Heights School, our facilities reflect our commitment to a balanced and enriched educational experience. Both of our campuses are fully equipped to meet the diverse needs and interests of our students, fostering environments where learning and growth flourish beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Our outdoor facilities include expansive play areas designed for social interaction and physical development. The soccer fields, including a FIFA-standard field at the Erin Mills Campus, provide students with the space to engage in sports, fostering teamwork and physical fitness. These outdoor spaces are essential for hosting school events, sports competitions, and daily recreation.
Inside, our campuses boast state-of-the-art laboratories that encourage hands-on learning and innovation. These innovative labs complement our comprehensive computer science curriculum, allowing students to explore and experiment in a controlled, safe environment. Our libraries serve as knowledge hubs, stocked with a vast collection of resources that support research and foster a love of reading across all age groups.
Music rooms are tailored for creative expression and musical exploration, providing students with the opportunity to learn various instruments and participate in vocal performance. These spaces are integral to our arts curriculum, allowing for individual practice as well as group rehearsals.
Each campus also features indoor gymnasiums, versatile spaces used for a variety of physical activities, school assemblies, and community events. These gymnasiums are essential for our physical education programme and serve as year-round venues for our active school community.
The Erin Mills Campus stands out with its additional specialized sports field, catering to a higher level of athletic training and hosting larger school-wide competitions and events. This field complements our strong athletic programme and underscores our dedication to providing students with top-tier sporting facilities.
Together, these facilities ensure that Sherwood Heights School offers a comprehensive, engaging, and supportive learning environment, where every student has the opportunity to excel in their academic and extracurricular pursuits.
